I am assuming you have just graduated high school, and are now attending college. If this is the case, then there is no simple answer.

Not many people hire students right out of high school, as they did in our parent's generation. You will probably have to work some crappy jobs, as we all have done, in order to prove yourself. I have worked many crappy jobs, but the key is consistency. A steady work history shows employers (especially in the law/government fields) that you are trustworthy and honest.

But how do you get one of these crappy jobs? I would start with people I know. It is true, that, in order to get hired quickly, you must know somebody. Most people, again, these days do not hire people off the streeet without someone knowing them. My crappy jobs all came from relatives and friends who knew of openings in their places of work. You have to remember, and keep telling yourself, that this is not a permanent posistion, it is just a stepping stone....but it may be a four year stepping stone, so don't burn any bridges too soon.

Fortunately, IF you finish your degree, you will not have to work at these crappy jobs anymore. A degree speaks volumes, no matter what field it pertains to.

Usually, an employer does not care if you are "getting" your degree. It took me 12 years to "get" my bachelor degree. Imagine the look on my boss's face when, after 10 years, I didn't have my bachelor. The only thing they care about is if you HAVE your degree. Only then, will employers look at you different. For so long I listed on my resume that I was "working towards a bachelor," and so many time my phone never rung. So stick with it, don't give up, it get's discouraging, but think of all the jobs you can do and the places you can go when you get your degree!

Here is a link of some of the state jobs in Ohio that you may want to pursue after you get your degree....but some of them only require a HS diploma, so you may want to try them out now!

Good luck!

Well, for starters, what was the reason you pursued that degree? What kind of job did you hope to get once completed?
