How bad is it to have a criminal record when going for a job?

Im doing an accounting degree and i am aiming to become an accountant. How hard would it be for me to get a job as an accountant if i had a criminal record for assault or vandalism. What is the worst crime to have on your record. What crime might they over look. Maybe points on my driving license.

depends if it’s a felony. felonies are bad.

Well anything to do with fraud and you will not be trusted with anything to do with money or accounting !
Anything you done as a juvenile will become spent and not count, driving offences are minor also.

Just make sure to tell your employer about the convictions, that question is asked on most applications and offer a chance to explain. Just be up front and honest with them- For an accounting job, your integrity will mean a lot!

That depends on the state you’re in, how long ago the offense was, and what you’ve done with yourself since. A vandalism conviction in your teens probably won’t be a big deal if you haven’t been in trouble since. Assault is a heavier charge, but it also covers a lot of ground, from fistfights to fights involving weapons. If you were in a rumble in your teens and have a clean record since, that probably won’t be held against you either.
