If you were convicted as an adult originally (and that does happen to a lot of 16 year olds), then your attorney must request a formal expungment or set aside depending on what state you live in by petition to the original court. That normally costs around $2500. Before you go that route visit the clerk of court where you were convicted and simply ask her if your records will be automatically sealed. The fbi and cia and like can still see them, but general police and all that do not have legal access to the records. Besides, even if it were exponged, the people who do have access to juvinile records would still see the conviction, the sentence, and the date it was exponged and why.
